Ancestry Classroom

While on campus, you can access Ancestry.com for classrooms. Here are some suggested classroom activities:

Family (History) Vacations

To help your students learn more about their family stories when visiting with relatives this summer, we want to remind you about the free oral history interview resources in the Family History toolkit here for students and families.

New Collaboration with the National Archives and Records Administration

Last month Ancestry announced its largest archive collaboration to date with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to digitize, index and publish tens of millions of NARA records over the next five years. The scope and depth of these collections reflect the richness and diversity of America’s people including draft cards from the Korean War era, Naturalization and Immigration records, Asian American records, and Native American records. Once Ancestry digitizes these records, AncestryClassroom educators and students will have access to historical records previously unavailable online. Learn more about the collaboration here.

National History Day

Ancestry is excited to sponsor the 50th year of National History Day. NHD reaches more than half a million students and tens of thousands of teachers each year via its international student history contest, teacher professional development programs, curriculum tools, and other educational activities. The final rounds of the contest will take place June 9-13 at the University of Maryland, College Park. This year, Ancestry will award the prize to the winner of the Senior Individual Exhibit category.

Facing History & Ourselves Partnership

For the past 3 years Ancestry has partnered with Facing History & Ourselves – a global organization that uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. Check out this new video to learn more about the important work Facing History & Ourselves is leading to bring primary sources to life in the classroom.

Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation Webinar
